Developers who build on land in Pleasanton s Johnson Drive Economic Development Zone (JDEDZ) by the I-580/I-680 interchange will also cover the cost of traffic improvements in its vicinity, after the City Council unanimously voted on Tuesday to levy transportation fees on new development in the area.
With a Costco, two hotels and other businesses planned to anchor the location of Pleasanton s newest commercial development, city staff said revenue collected from the transportation fees would mitigate the impact of new development in the JDEDZ by upgrading and adding to the city s traffic infrastructure. Fees would be assessed according to land-use and the building square footage being proposed.

A rideshare driver was carjacked at gunpoint early Sunday morning in west Oak Cliff, Dallas police say.
The driver went at about 2:30 a.m. to Hacienda Drive and Blue Ridge Boulevard to pick up someone who had requested a ride.
When she arrived, a man got into her front passenger seat, pulled out a firearm and demanded her car, police said.

Investigators believe a car-to-car shooting that wounded two people Jan. 2 in Pleasanton was a targeted attack, police said.
The victims, an 18-year-old Oakland man and an 18-year-old woman from Richmond, were expected to recover from their injuries suffered in the late night shooting, police said.
The shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. as the victims drove west on Stoneridge Drive, just after they exited the 580 freeway, Pleasanton police Lt. Brandon Stocking said.
Pleasanton police responded to the area of Stoneridge and Gibraltar drives following reports of gunshots and were searching the area when the victims called the California Highway Patrol. The victims told officers they were parked on the eastbound 580 freeway at Hacienda Drive, were shot and needed help.
