It has been over three years since an ugly, racially biased flyer against one mayoral candidate and portrayed as being sent by another mayoral candidate was found on the windshields of cars in Hoboken, four nights before the 2017 election.  An investigation immediately commenced by Hoboken Police and just a few days later, with a difference of only 500 votes between these two candidates, a new mayor was elected.  At its meeting on April 7 ....

A big crowd stood in support of the Asian American Pacific Islander community at a “Stop Asian Hate” rally at Jersey City City Hall that had appearances from leaders statewide.
“In America, hate has no home here, and in Jersey City … hate definitely does not have a home here!” Jersey City Councilman-at-Large Rolando Lavarro, one of the event organizers, said at the rally – which drew a crowd of around 200 people.
Lavarro, along with Ward E Councilman James Solomon (who was among supporters today), sponsored a resolution condemning hate against the AAPI community last month, which was approved unanimously. ....

The Hoboken City Council has designated 1500 Clinton LLC, Bijou Properties, as the conditional redeveloper of 1500 Clinton St., after much discussion.
At the center of the conversation was the developer’s proposal revealed the week prior for a mixed-use building with a City Hall annex, Department of Public Works garage, Office of Emergency Management command center, retail space, outdoor art displays, and roughly 500 residential units.
Though the proposal was not on the council agenda, Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher raised concerns that by designating Bijou Properties as the conditional redeveloper, the council would be signaling to the administration that it supports the propos ....

A roughly one-acre property on Harrison Street owned by Academy Bus will double the size of the Southwest Resiliency Park.
The Hoboken City Council has introduced two ordinances that could double the size of the Southwest Resiliency Park at 58 Jackson St.
The city has long sought to expand the one-acre park that helps mitigate flooding by detaining 200,000 gallons of storm water runoff. The city has eyed the property owned by Academy Bus, a parking lot known as Block 10 on the tax map, that sits to the west of the park. ....

The Hoboken City Council adopted a resolution asking Attorney General Gurbir Grewal to take over the investigation into an illicit 2017 flyer.
As Hoboken prepares for the November mayoral election, unanswered questions loom from the last, because an investigation into an anonymous midnight flyer distributed just days before the 2017 election remains unsolved.
The City Council is seeking the help of the New Jersey Attorney General and Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

At the center of the investigation is a midnight campaign flyer, which appeared on car windshields just days before the mayoral election in which now Mayor Ravi Bhalla, Councilman Michael DeFusco, Councilwoman Jen Giattino, Commissioner Anthony Romano, and residents Karen Nason and Ron Bautista vied for the office. ....
