SACRAMENTO State lawmakers are considering a bill to fast-track major reforms in college athletics by speeding up plans to allow players to make money from endorsement deals as early as next month. California is already set to allow college athletes to be compensated for the use of their name, image or likeness beginning in 2023, but the state senator behind that law is now pushing a bill to make it effective immediately if signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom. Sen. Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) said that since her 2019 bill became law, Florida, New Mexico, Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi have passed legislation to push the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. to overhaul its long-standing policies, with the changes in those states becoming effective July 1. ....
A grieving mum has slammed the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for deciding not to proceed after a police investigation into the crash that killed her young daughter was closed, citing delays caused by the Covid pandemic. Hayley Hodson, 41, has been looking for answers since her daughter, Amelia, 11, was killed when a wheel came loose from an off-roading vehicle and hit her in the head, while she walked from her home to school in March 2018. The mother of a schoolgirl killed in a freak accident after being struck by a car wheel says she is disappointed no one has been prosecuted as a coroner today described her death as tragic, needless and entirely preventable . Amelia Wood, 11, was walking to catch a school bus in Manby, Lincolnshire, when the front wheel of the passing 4x4 broke off and hit her. The former Cleethorpes schoolgirl was airlifted to Queen s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where she sadly died. A two-day inquest into her tragic death in March 2018 heard that the vehicle, which was being driven by then 22-year-old Cameron Perkins, from Covenham St Bartholemew, was unroadworthy due to a catalogue of faults. ....
