A six-year-old girl from Barrow has raised £1,000 and counting for Furness General Hospital after pledging to run or walk a mile every day in January. Emme-Rose Deakin has smashed her initial target of £150 after the Covid-19 pandemic inspired her to support the NHS. Proud dad Phillip Deakin said he felt incredibly proud of his daughter and her decision to embark on the month-long challenge. He said: “The idea for this fundraiser came about when Emme-Rose heard that we were about to head into another national lockdown. “She wanted to say thank you for all of the hard work of the NHS staff and to help the poorly people in hospital. ....

The club made the donation via the Bay Hospitals Charity, which raises money to improve patient care and experience across University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. A PROJECT inspired by the American ‘Peanuts’ comic strip featuring blanket-loving Linus van Pelt, Snoopy and Charlie Brown, is giving comfort to youngsters on the Children’s Ward and Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Furness General Hospital. ‘Project Linus’ brings together selfless women from around Barrow and the South Lakes to make beautiful quilts for children while they are in hospital. The quilts are given to the children and then offered to families to take home when the children have left hospital. In the last two years, the quilters have made 110 quilts for the Children’s Ward and 90 for SCBU. ....

Katie and Oliver Lupton raised the funds after staff at the unit cared for their twin girls Ella and Molly for 12 days in January when they were born six weeks early.
