Oakland A's Game #45: A's pitching overwhelmed by Houston Astros again

Perez was the centerpiece of the 2017 Justin Verlander trade. The Tigers acquired him, along with catcher Jake Rogers and outfielder Daz Cameron, for the likely Hall of Famer pitcher. After the trade, Perez became the team s No. 1 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
Since the trade, Perez has pitched just nine games and 27 innings in Detroit s farm system. He logged a 2.35 ERA in 7⅔ innings in 2019. He had a 6.52 ERA across 19⅓ innings in 2018 for the Gulf Coast League Tigers (three games) and High-A Lakeland (four games).
The most Perez has ever pitched came in 2017, when he competed in 19 games (16 starts) and 86⅓ innings in the Houston Astros farm system. He registered a 3.44 ERA, 27 walks and 78 strikeouts. In 2016, Perez had a 2.84 ERA, 19 walks and 75 strikeouts in 66⅔ innings. ....

The New York Mets woke up Monday morning in first place in the National League East, with a one-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. But a former coach is warning Mets fans not to be fooled by the club’s recent five-game winning streak.
Hensley Meulens talked recently with USA Today’s Bob Nightengale and said his experience as Mets bench coach in 2020 left him underwhelmed with the club which calls Citi Field home.
“Wow, at least I’m out of the zoo. . Something is wrong. I don’t know if people are intimidated, afraid or what. I’m easy to get along with. I study everything. I’m not stubborn. I change with the times. I don’t get it.’ ....

Updated May 06, 2021;
Jose Altuve, a face of the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing cheating scandal, was heckled for three days during his first visit to Yankee Stadium since his team busted by MLB.
Yankees fans got out the former MVP nonstop until finding a way to quiet them.
With the game on the line Thursday, Altuve hit a three-run, eighth-inning homer off Yankees reliever Chad Green to turn a 3-2 Houston deficit into a 5-3 lead in what would become a 7-4 Astros victory.
Fans booed Altuve as he circled the bases, then got really quiet for the first time in three days. ....
