A group of about 40 people gathered in Hoover Saturday afternoon to demonstrate against police brutality, racism and inequality.
In contrast with the dozens of arrests made at large-scale protests that took place in the community after the killing of George Floyd last summer, Hoover Police did not interfere with the protesters on Saturday.
Over the course of two hours, activists marched down the hill from the Hoover Public Library to the Hoover Police Department’s headquarters on Municipal Drive, then back to the library. The Hoover City Council has agreed to hire Alabama Power to do $9.4 million worth of upgrades to the city’s energy and utility systems.
However, the upgrades won’t cost the city any money, Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato said. “This is not costing us a dime,” Brocato said. ....
