Dr. Douglas Crosby, 48, and Kevin Beedon, 47, who both graduated from Port Huron Northern High School in 1991, recently announced that after years of phone calls and enlisting the help of a former NASA scientist, Crosby’s ultraviolet (UVC) device should be available for sale by the end of 2021. Crosby said millions of people have ideas, but they’re bringing theirs to life. “We are one out of millions,” he said. His business, Crosby Innovations, LLC, has entered a patent and technology license partnership with Healthe Inc., which develops and deploys UVC products that inactivate viruses and bacteria in the air and on surfaces, according to a press release. ....

Kyle Sutschek, executive officer aboard the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Hollyhock, said the buoy season has been going well for the ship and its crew. Throughout the spring, Hollyhock s crew has been completing work on lakes and waterways throughout the Midwest. This week, the ship and its crew will end the season by completing work near Ashtabula, Ohio, Erie, Pennsylvania and Buffalo, New York. Why are the buoys swapped? When the locks in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway system reopen for the year, the buoy tending season begins. It is around this time of year that the lakes and waterways will see a large increase in commercial and recreational traffic, Sutschek said. ....
