Police searching for suspects after break-ins on Gratiot Avenue Friday night View Comments Police are searching for suspects after homeowners scared away intruders who broke into their Port Huron homes Friday night. Homeowners in the 3800 block of Gratiot Avenue heard noises inside their home and scared away suspects that had broken in at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Port Huron Police Department. Other neighbors told police they had scared suspects away after they had attempted to open a locked door. Suspects also entered another home in the same block and items were stolen. Vehicles, garages, and bedrooms were rummaged through, the police department said. ....
Editor s note: A previous version of the story incorrectly stated the nature of the incident. A 20-year-old Detroit resident was shot in the foot Monday night after two men approached his vehicle. The man was sitting in a parked vehicle on Francis Street near 15th Street when he was approached by two white males about 11 p.m., said Port Huron Police Assistant Chief Marcy Kuehn. The victim was ordered out of his vehicle and when he failed to comply, one of the suspects pulled out a handgun. The victim attempted to drive away when the suspect fired, striking the vehicle multiple times. One of the rounds entered the passenger compartment, striking the victim in the foot. ....

The city recently purchased four new electric bikes for the department. City Manager James Freed said the bikes were purchased from Alpine Cycles as another way for the department to connect with the public by being visible in the city s neighborhoods. This is another component of community policing, he said.
