Federal secretary asked to speed up legislation for personal data protection - Newspaper


KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday directed the federal secretary, ministry of information technology and telecommunication, to expedite the process after it was informed that the proposed legislation regarding personal data protection of citizens was in the consultative phase.
The two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar granted one month to the secretary to submit a progress report on a request of a federal law officer.
When the bench took up a petition seeking an investigation into reports regarding a data breach of 115 million mobile phone users in Pakistan and its sale on the darknet for hearing, an AAG filed comments on behalf of the ministry of IT and telecommunication. ....

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday directed the secretary of the social welfare department to order inspection of all registered orphanages in the province and examine the facilities available for the children therein.
The two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar further asked the secretary to come up with a report on May 4 about action taken against unregistered orphanages.
When the bench took up a petition seeking proper compliance under the Sindh Orphanages (Supervision and Control) Act, 1976 and the Sindh Darul Atfal (Supervision and Control) Rules 1987 for hearing, secretary of social welfare department Abdul Wahab Shaikh filed a reply. ....

PM has sought new panel for setting up Copyright Board, SHC told - Newspaper


KARACHI: The Sindh High Court was informed that the prime minister had rejected a summary for constitution of the Copyright Board with some observations and directed the ministry of commerce to nominate a fresh panel for consideration.
When a two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar took up for hearing a petition seeking constitution of the Copyright Board, assistant attorney general Hussain Bohra submitted that in compliance with the earlier order he had discussed the matter with the ministry of commerce.
He informed the bench that the earlier summary to form the Copyright Board was placed before the prime minister, but it was rejected with certain observations and the ministry was directed to nominate a fresh panel for consideration. ....

Sindh govt's reply sought on plea against commercial projects on twin islands - Newspaper


KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday sought a reply from the provincial government in a petition against launching of commercial projects on mangroves land in twin islands of Bundal and Buddo off Karachi’s coast.
A two-judge bench comprising Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Amjad Ali Sahito was hearing a set of petitions challenging the vires of the Pakistan Islands Development Authority (PIDA) Ordinance promulgated by the federal government in September last year.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, assistant attorney general Hussain Bohra submitted that the ordinance had already lapsed on Jan 3.
However, he requested time to seek instructions from the federal authorities in this regard. ....
