Six Mile Run News

Good morning everyone. The rain is pounding down on our back deck. I don’t know when it started to rain, but it was raining when I got up at 6:30. It is Wednesday morning instead of Thursday because tomorrow I have two doctor appointments in Altoona, so I don’t think I will have enough time to write. So I will do my best to get my column done today. I already had a doctor appointment in Bedford on Monday afternoon to make sure I was better from my last sinus infection. Then yesterday morning I had an appointment at my dentist, in Saxton, or some repair work on a couple of teeth. Now tomorrow I go to Altoona, so it has been a busy week running, and Charley has been very good at keeping Makailee when I have to go.

Christmas miracle for two families safe from eviction thanks to ABC11 viewers

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) It s a true Christmas miracle for two families on the brink of eviction. Thanks to incredibly generous ABC11 viewers, those families no longer have the stress of worrying about being homeless. Garnermother of three Heather Hodge said her landlord threatened to evict her if she didn t pay rent by the day after Christmas. This is the first month I m going to be late and I already have the papers that say he s started the eviction process, she said. As soon as ABC11 aired Hodge s story, viewers wanted to help. Troubleshooter Diane Wilson surprised her on Christmas Eve with the donations.

It s so hard: Renters being kicked out of their homes despite eviction moratorium

It s the stark reality for so many renters, they are facing eviction with no place to go. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of Americans fell behind on their rent after losing their jobs or having their hours cut due to COVID. In central North Carolina, thousands are expected to lose their homes even though Congress just passed a new coronavirus relief bill that extends the CDC moratorium on evictions through Jan. 31. I don t know what I m going to do. I don t know where I m going to put my stuff, said a Fayetteville mom to a little boy, who asked us not to use her name. She was working full-time but then tested positive for COVID-19 and lost her job and fell two months behind on her rent.
