NC Leader Arrested Under UAPA For 'Hate Speech' During DDC Polls: Police

Srinagar- National Conference leader Hilal Lone has been arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly delivering a hate speech at a rally during last year s district development council elections in Bandipora, a senior police official said on Tuesday.
Lone, the son of NC s Member of Parliament Mohammad Akbar Lone, was arrested on Monday from the MLA hostel here where he was being held captive since December last year, the official said.
He was booked under various sections of the UAPA in an FIR registered at a police station in Hajin in north Kashmir s Bandipora district. ....

SRINAGAR: National Conference functionary Hilal Lone, the son of North Kashmir MP Akbar Lone, was arrested in Bandipora on Tuesday and booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for an alleged hate speech at a rally in his native district ahead of J&K s first district development council elections. Hilal, who had been in preventive detention since December, was freed from Srinagar s MLAs hostel only on Monday.
A senior official said Hilal had been charged with incitement to unlawful activity under Section 13 of the UAPA, besides promoting enmity (Section 153A of the IPC), disobedience of an order promulgated by the authorities (Section 188) and intent to cause fear (Section 505). The FIR against him was registered at Hajin police station. ....

SRINAGAR: The BJP has a completely different standard when it comes to hate speech from its leaders, National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah alleged on Tuesday.
Abdullah”s remark came after his party colleague Hilal Lone was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly delivering a “hate speech” at a rally during last year”s district development council elections in Jammu and Kashmir”s Bandipora.
“The BJP has a completely different standard when it comes to hate speech from its own leaders. They can call for hands to be cut off, people to be murdered and it”s fine. Hilal Lone makes a speech and anti-terror laws are used to book him,” Abdullah tweeted. ....
