With an increase in the movement of public at some of the scenic locations in Chittoor district, officials of the police and forest departments have intensified surveillance at picnic spots.
Though the movement of tourists picked up last year after the first wave ebbed, the surge came to a standstill in April when the second wave struck the district.
But now again, with some respite in COVID infections for a few days now, coupled with relaxations at the border check posts with Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, there is a steady increase in arrival of picnic lovers at the Horsley Hills, Kaigal, Talakona, Ubbalamadugu and Kailasanatha Kona and some lesser known waterfalls, which are yet to open to the public. ....

Please take care particularly if you are walking a dog along any of the four public footpaths that lead from the village. At this time of year cattle are excited to be on fresh grass and those with young are quite nervous and protective. Kindly note that the bridge at the east end of the village is not a public right of way and according to a local land agent neither are areas of set aside. NCC as yet have been unable to cut back overgrown vegetation on the path to Wylam near Horsley Banks and the two paths from Horsley Hills to Northside. Hopefully all reported faults around the parish will be rectified shortly. Farmers are obliged to reinstate public rights of way once crops come through and ensure the legal width of paths from boundaries are correct. The safest route at present to avoid cattle is the path following the old A69 road at Horsley Barns. Paths that need reinstating are those already mentioned as well as the path between Horsley ....

There is a sudden dip in the number of arrivals
The happiness of tourism officials in Chittoor district after gaining back full potential, after lockdown norms were eased, at several tourist locations in the district such as Horsely Hills, has become short-lived with a sudden dip in the number of visitors since the first week of April owing to the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases.
Horsley Hills near Madanapalle, a scenic hill station, which attracts a large number of tourists from Chennai and Bengaluru, was shut down following March 2020 lockdown. However, the hill station’s potential returned to normal in September last year. The officials said till February this year, the tourist destination remained jam-packed with tourists overflowing during the weekends. Since April, in spite of the increase in mercury levels, the occupancy rate of ....

The snow is gone for now and we’ve even enjoyed some hot sunny days already. So while it was good hearing the laughter from children sledging, and impressive to spot one neighbour even trying out skis, it’s going to be a positive relief to see the signs of Spring as they come along. This week the cool white of snowdrops are joined - and will soon be overtaken by - the bright yellows of daffodils, and also of winter aconites which brighten up my walk through Beltingham. We must have thousands of bulbs coming up across the area and thanks are owed to all our neighbours who have made that effort to brighten up our daily views. I’ve even spotted some folk doing litter picks on their daily walks, which is a habit I too should take up. ....
