With the return of our swallows and house martins, summer has officially arrived! In-person voting takes place today in the Village Hall from 7am to 10pm in the Police and Crime Commissioner, County Council and Parish Council elections. Counting will take place on 6 May (10pm – County Council), 7 May (10am - Police and Crime Commissioner) and 8 May (10am – Parish Council). Regardless of the results, very many thanks to everyone who has put their name forward to serve our community. Congratulations and many thanks to Katherine Dixon who will be retiring from the Surgery in Humshaugh within the next few weeks after 35 years of service. Katherine joined the Humshaugh and Wark Medical Group in 1986 as a receptionist, and in recent years has been more widely involved in the administration of the practice. Katherine has worked tirelessly for all those living in Humshaugh, Wark and the wider community, and residents are invited to contribute to a retirement gift to thank her for
Bardon Mill Bob & Mike Duckett The snow is gone for now and we’ve even enjoyed some hot sunny days already. So while it was good hearing the laughter from children sledging, and impressive to spot one neighbour even trying out skis, it’s going to be a positive relief to see the signs of Spring as they come along. This week the cool white of snowdrops are joined - and will soon be overtaken by - the bright yellows of daffodils, and also of winter aconites which brighten up my walk through Beltingham. We must have thousands of bulbs coming up across the area and thanks are owed to all our neighbours who have made that effort to brighten up our daily views. I’ve even spotted some folk doing litter picks on their daily walks, which is a habit I too should take up.
Wylam
By Robin Piette Seen the pictures of Tom Birch’s Sunday service on February 7 in the igloo in his garden? Several of our pubs have set up pop-up, takeaway or click and collect for coffee, snacks and full meals – you can’t keep a good caterer down! Lovely post from Clare Overton: Wylam Brownies have designed posters and postcards to welcome people to Wylam as they get off the train (or to remind people of what a lovely place it is when waiting on the platforms). We are looking for a volunteer or two to choose our winning posters which will be made and displayed at the station. You might have an interest in railways, be a keen artist or designer or just love Wylam. Please let me know if you’d like to help. All the designs can be sent digitally so we are fully Covid safe. All the Brownies will have their designs made into postcards.
