A Hartland Township teen was recently honored for her achievement of being the first female from the community to earn Eagle Rank.
15-year-old Jessica Witkowski was among the inaugural class of female Scouts to earn the designation of Eagle Scout after the Boy Scouts of America opened up their ranks to females in 2019, becoming Scouts BSA. In that short amount of time, Witkowski was able to work her way through all the ranks while serving the community.
Her Life Rank project involved building and installing bluebird houses at Settlers Park. Then, when the pandemic struck last spring, she changed her original Eagle Scout plans, putting together a group of classmates via Zoom meetings to make and distribute over 600 fabric masks to local elderly populations at Village Manor Retirement, Hartland Senior Center, and West Hickory Haven in Milford. ....

WHMI 93.5 Local News : Resolution Approved Rescinding Old Fire Millage In Hartland

The Hartland Township Board of Trustees has approved a resolution to implement a fire millage approved by voters last fall.
At a recent virtual meeting, the board approved a resolution rescinding a 2012 fire millage and to implement the fire millage approved last November. Voters approved a 2.06-mill proposal for five years last November. The existing 1.81 millage was vacated.
Manager Bob West commented that the latest millage was put on the ballot one year early to plan accordingly should it not be successful. He says it was communicated with residents that only the new millage would be collected if the proposal passed. Since it did, the old millage is being vacated one year early and the new one is being implemented. ....

The Hartland Township Board met virtually Tuesday night and adopted a plan that deals with how to handle potential emergency situations.
The Emergency Support Operations Plan for Hartland basically lays out the game plan for a localized emergency. It was originally completed in 2017 but was set to expire so required revisions were made and the plan is now good for another four years. The plan could be triggered by potential hazmat situations, expressway incidents or crashes, straight line winds or tornados. It identifies chain of command, point persons, different responsibilities and steps that need to be taken. The plan focuses on the safety of residents through information, planning, and preparation for all emergency events and potential hazards. Itâs described as an adaptable document that can be applied to all hazards. ....

WHMI 93.5 Local News : Hartland Township Announces New Water And Sewer Rates

Hartland Township officials have approved new water and sewer rates for the upcoming year.
The Hartland Township Board of Trustees approved the rates at a 5.86% increase for fiscal year 2022 at their latest meeting, held online, Tuesday night. The township is in the 7th and final year of their current rate study. Hartland Township Manager Bob West said the increase is partially due to the Livingston County Drain Commission setting rates for their sewer system. The water rates are independent of the county, handled by the township, and were adjusted to coincide. Because of sewer going through the county, those rates take effect on January 1st, with water going into effect at the beginning of the townshipâs fiscal year, which starts on April 1st. ....
