A new agreement has been approved for M-59 median maintenance in Hartland Township.
At a recent meeting, the township board approved a service contract with Hartland-based Horizon Landscape for the 2021-2023 seasons for an amount not to exceed $20,402 per year. The contract covers all maintenance in the medians, which includes spring clean-up, mulch, turf treatments and irrigation start-up and fall shut down.
A memo states the medians are a major focal point of the community and business area but maintaining them can be cumbersome and hazardous for Public Works staff. Township Manager Bob West told the board the company has provided satisfactory service in the past and was the only responsive company that will perform all facets of maintenance. ....

The Hartland Township Board met virtually Tuesday night and adopted a plan that deals with how to handle potential emergency situations.
The Emergency Support Operations Plan for Hartland basically lays out the game plan for a localized emergency. It was originally completed in 2017 but was set to expire so required revisions were made and the plan is now good for another four years. The plan could be triggered by potential hazmat situations, expressway incidents or crashes, straight line winds or tornados. It identifies chain of command, point persons, different responsibilities and steps that need to be taken. The plan focuses on the safety of residents through information, planning, and preparation for all emergency events and potential hazards. Itâs described as an adaptable document that can be applied to all hazards. ....

A local township has scored a perfect auditing score for the assessing of properties.
The Michigan Department of Treasury on Monday announced that Hartland Township Assessing Department has received a perfect score in the recent Audit of Minimum Assessing Requirements (AMAR). Five years ago the state implemented this new evaluation process for local government assessments in an effort to ensure consistency across Michigan. Cities and townships get audited every 5 years based on AMAR guidelines. The audit measures several factors, including whether assessing records match the physical description of the property. The alignment of the townshipâs records to these descriptions is critical in accurately assessing the value of properties for tax purposes, according to a release. ....
