Michigan’s state parks and recreation areas generally welcome pets (with a few ground rules, of course), and several state parks offer pet-friendly lodging, too, from remote yurts to cozy mini cabins. According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the following state-managed lodging options are open to pets. Note that there are some additional fees (details here), and that pet owners must follow DNR rules for pets in state parks. The Northern Lower Peninsula led the way with 62 nominations. The Upper Peninsula was next with 37. With a total of 132 nominations, that’s 75 percent of your nominations for places “Up North.” ....

The cannabis economy is here for the taking or forsaking. The cannabis economy takes many shapes cultivation, security, transportation, and retail, both medicinal and recreational. Alpena originally decided to limit the business of cannabis to two medicinal dispensaries (it’s working to allow more), which yields zero extra revenue for the city, and zoned them away from downtown.
