The painful incident of negligence came to light on Tuesday as the bodies of the two victims belonging to two different communities were swapped at the Haveri District Covid Hospital. The Hindu family was upset and demanded that the body be exhumed and handed over to them so that they could perform the last rites as per their tradition. But, the district hospital authorities refused to do so citing Covid protocol which does not allow the exhumation of a Covid body once it has been buried. ....
Despite the pandemic and economic slowdown, Karnataka has almost reached its target in liquor sale. HAVERI/ HUBBALLI: The prolonged closure of bars and prohibition on sales of alcoholic beverages in the immediate aftermath of the outbreak of Covid-19 in the beginning of the 2020-21 financial year had raised fears among officials in the excise department over their revenue targets being met. However, sales have been anything but sluggish in some of the districts in North Karnataka. Haveri district, for instance, has registered record sales of beer across the state, with 96.1% of the stock being cleared in the recently concluded financial year. Kolar (94.4%), Chitradurga (90.7%) and Chikkaballapur (90%) have slotted in behind Haveri in second, third and fourth slots respectively. ....
Bureaucratic hiatus: After the fire gutted all the documents, farmers were unable to transfer the title deed of their land HAVERI: In a first in the state, Haveri district administration has decided to recreate and rebuild all important documents that were gutted when a few angry farmers protesting against the irregular supply of water, set the revenue record office in Savanur on fire on April 29, 2000. Due to the fire, more than 10,000 farmers of 33 villages under Savanur’s Kasaba hobli lost their land records and that in turn deprived them of loans and other government benefits. Following Haveri deputy commissioner’s order to recreate the destroyed documents by referring to the supporting documents preserved in the department at the earliest, the revenue authorities have commenced the work already. ....
