Drink driver A WINCHESTER man was caught drink driving 85 miles from his home and on his birthday. Ionut Ostache was stopped while driving a Fiat Punto on Newlands Road, in Luton, on March 6, and a breath test was carried out. The 29-year-old was found to have 87 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35. Ostache, of Harrow Down, appeared at Luton Magistrates’ Court on April 22 where pleaded guilty to drink driving. Magistrates disqualified him from driving for 18 months and fined him £300. Winchester Crown Court A WINCHESTER man broke his friend’s collarbone in what a judge described as a “wrestling match” over unpaid money for a holiday. In a drink-fuelled state Charles Meeres went to Christopher Colley’s home on August 17, last year, when an argument broke out between the friends. The victim asked Meeres to leave his house, when it was alleged that Mr Colley kicked the 56-year-old’s dog, Winchester Crown Court heard today (Thursday). Judge Andrew Barnett said there was a “very unpleasant” scene outside the home, adding: “effectively what I describe as a wrestling match”. The court was that during the incident Mr Colley put his arms around his attacker, before Meeres fell on him causing a broken collarbone and fractured rib. ....
A TAPE measure is at the heart of a planning row on a Winchester estate. Marek Bobrowski has applied to convert a garage into living space at his home in Harrow Down and put a parking space on his front lawn. But neighbours have pointed out that the garden is not big enough to hold a vehicle in accordance with council standards. The council policy is that the parking space should be 4.8m but Paul Cooper, of Harrow Down, submitted photos to the committee that showed the space was only 4.1m. Planning officers said according to the submitted plans the garden was big enough but had not physically measured it themselves. ....
