According to data from the state Department of Health, the three-county area saw 295 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 11 new deaths attributed to the disease on Tuesday. Schuylkill County had the highest new case count in the three-county area, with 138 new cases. The county also added four new deaths. Luzerne County added 103 new cases and seven new deaths, while Carbon County added 54 new cases. In Schuylkill County, six new cases were reported in Tamaqua and two each in Shenandoah and Zion Grove. In Luzerne County, 10 new cases were reported in Mountain Top and four each in Hazletonâs 18201 zip code and the 18202 zip code, which includes Hazle Twp. and West Hazleton. Anthony J. Kilker SHENANDOAH â A New York man who led East Union Township Police on a chase on Nov. 21 waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker. Billy Jon Quirk, 28, of 83 Park St., Centereach, was arrested by police Chief Thomas Rentschler and charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, trespass by motor vehicle, reckless driving, careless driving, driving at an unsafe speed, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, driving without insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle and receiving stolen property. By waiving his right to a hearing, Quirk will now have to answer to all nine charges in Schuylkill County Court where he can plead guilty or enter a not guilty plea and request a trial. ....
