Abusive husband changed his ways after support from domestic violence charity

A DOMESTIC abuser living in Wiltshire soon changed his ways after noticing his behaviour towards his wife turning violent.
The husband, who will be referred to as Simon, first realised his passive aggression was turning into actual physical harm after his two children were born.
He said: Looking back, I can now see that I was quite passive aggressive - often mentally abusive and controlling in my behaviour. That s just the way I had always been.
When my children were very young and I was working long hours I was always tired and grumpy and then one day, sitting in our car, I lost control and hit my wife in the stomach. ....

Wiltshire Police has seen a year-on-year increase in the number of Clare’s Law applications.
Clare’s Law (Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme) – named for Clare Wood who was killed by a former partner police knew to be dangerous – allows police to share someone’s criminal history with their current partner if they feel at risk.
Overall from April 2020 to March 2021, 558 applications under Clare’s Law were submitted by Wiltshire Police.
