A DOMESTIC abuser living in Wiltshire soon changed his ways after noticing his behaviour towards his wife turning violent. The husband, who will be referred to as Simon, first realised his passive aggression was turning into actual physical harm after his two children were born. He said: Looking back, I can now see that I was quite passive aggressive - often mentally abusive and controlling in my behaviour. That s just the way I had always been. When my children were very young and I was working long hours I was always tired and grumpy and then one day, sitting in our car, I lost control and hit my wife in the stomach.
Wiltshire Police received 19 domestic abuse reports in a 24-hour period around the Euro 2020 final. Five arrests were made between 7am Sunday morning and 7am yesterday – and all are said to be football-related. Supt Phil Staynings said: “Our message was clear throughout the tournament and remains so now the final whistle has blown; violence of any kind will not be tolerated in Wiltshire. “Unfortunately, a small minority have let their communities down by committing crime during a period when the whole country was united.” “Officers, many of whom had rest days cancelled, responded to the demand superbly, and that is why it is particularly disappointing to hear of assaults on our officers in the course of doing their job.”
