GREEN RIVER Expedition Academy High School (EAHS) has brought in a furry friend to accompany students to their classes as part of a pilot dog program. The dog has been in the school for about nine weeks now, but EAHS just received unanimous approval from the Sweetwater County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees to keep the dog in the school through the remainder of the school year. Ralph Obray, EAHS Principal, said the dog’s purpose in the school is to help calm students, promote a positive atmosphere, and better the students’ mental and emotional health. January 20, 2021 A voluntary separation program initiated by Sweetwater County School District No. 2 has drawn some interest from employees. During an update last week, Jason Fuss, director of human resources for the district, said 19 employees have applied for the program. That number consists 11 certified professional staff, seven support staff and one administrator. Green River Star - Voluntary separation plan approved December 16, 2020 With a loss of funding and a voluntary reduction in school budgets requested by Gov. Mark Gordon, Sweetwater County School District No. 2 is moving forward with a voluntary reduction incentive plan. The plan was approved unanimously by the district’s board of trustees last week. During a presentation to the board last week, Superintendent Craig Barringer said the district is down 211 students from the 2019-2020 school year, which will lead to a projected loss of $855,000 in funding.
