Coffee and Conversation: I m looking forward to sunshine

Coffee and Conversation: I’m looking forward to sunshine Victoria Hansen Special to The Journal-Standard With the weather warming, so does my desire to spend more and more time outside. I often joke that one day I may just put a chair and table out in the parking lot at the office, so I can work in the sunshine. I don’t think the weather is there yet, but warmer days are ahead. Are you looking for something fun to do outside? Again, this year the Young Leader Committee is hosting the Annual Bruce Johnson Memorial Farm to Farm 5K/10K Run on March 27. This is one of my favorite events. A few important dates to remember if you are planning on participating.

Coffee and Conversation: Farmers are innovators

Coffee and Conversation: Farmers are innovators Victoria Hansen Special to The Journal-Standard Just like other professions for farmers, growing and raising our food means improving. It means discovering ways to do things better and finding solutions to complex problems. Farmers make decisions every day that advance their methods for raising animals and growing crops. Innovation on the farm such as self-steering equipment, field mapping drones, and animal health monitors means less environmental impacts, safer food and a healthier world. In Illinois, farmers use the latest in science and technology to advance the ways they grow and raise food that is better for you and our world. Coffee and Conversation: Illinois Farm Bureau has virtual meeting

Victoria Hansen Special to the Journal-Standard On Dec. 5, the Illinois Farm Bureau hosted its first ever virtual annual meeting. Even though our members were unable to celebrate like we usually do at the Palmer House Hotel in downtown Chicago, it was still a memorable event. Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert Jr. delivered his president’s address. During this presentation he shared many of the accomplishments of Illinois Farm Bureau and our members during this past year.  Accomplishments include:  Defeating the Progressive Income Tax Constitutional Amendment with a strong statewide grassroots campaign.  IAA Foundation awarded more than $930,000 in grants and scholarships for college student and county agriculture literacy programs.
