Massillon council considers Kmart property rezoning and business grant

Monday meeting KEY ACTION: Gave second reading to an ordinance that would authorize a zoning change from general business (B-3) to light industrial (I-1) on a northern section of the former Kmart property, 2600 Lincoln Way E. The rezoning would allow for construction on a 7-acre section of the 11.7-acre parcel to accommodate a new indoor/outdoor storage facility. RCG Ventures and Stein Investment Group, both of Atlanta, have joined to form RCG-Stein, the entity in line to operate the property and spearhead the venture, part of which includes grocery and retail shops along Lincoln Way. OTHER ACTION: Approved an ordinance that authorizes the purchase of a 2022 MEDIX Type 1 ambulance for the Massillon Fire Department.

Massillon Planning Commission weighs in on Kmart site rezoning issue

The Independent MASSILLON  Developers wanting to purchase the former Kmart property for new business opportunities nabbed the endorsement of a key city group Wednesday night. The Massillon Planning Commission voted 6-0 to approve a proposal aimed at building an indoor/outdoor storage facility and grocery and retail shops at the Kmart site, 2600 Lincoln Way E. The decision sends the issues to City Council, which must approve the zoning change needed to move forward with the storage center plan. The final decision on rezoning from general business (B-3) to light industrial (I-1) on a northern, seven-acre section of the 11.7-acre property will head to City Council.
