Kmart site rezoning change pushed forward by Massillon City Council

Massillon Planning Commission weighs in on Kmart site rezoning issue

The Independent MASSILLON  Developers wanting to purchase the former Kmart property for new business opportunities nabbed the endorsement of a key city group Wednesday night. The Massillon Planning Commission voted 6-0 to approve a proposal aimed at building an indoor/outdoor storage facility and grocery and retail shops at the Kmart site, 2600 Lincoln Way E. The decision sends the issues to City Council, which must approve the zoning change needed to move forward with the storage center plan. The final decision on rezoning from general business (B-3) to light industrial (I-1) on a northern, seven-acre section of the 11.7-acre property will head to City Council.

Former Massillon Kmart targeted for restaurants, offices, self-storage

The Independent MASSILLON  An opportunity is on the table to bid farewell to a vacant Kmart building and welcome in a major storage center with fresh retail stores. An Atlanta-based limited liability company has plans to repurpose the former Kmart building, 2600 Lincoln Way E, as a self-storage facility, as well as develop separate parcels on the southern part of the nearly 11-acre property for unspecified retail shops, restaurants and office space. RCG Ventures LLC and Stein Investment Group, both of Atlanta, have joined together to form RCG-Stein, the group in line to purchase the property and spearhead the venture. A zoning change from general business (B-3) to light industrial (I-1) on a section of the property would be necessary to move forward with the self-storage effort.
