(WVIR) - Staunton has been chasing the Gold Award for Performance Excellence for their water treatment plant for years. Now, they have one, and itâs in no small part because of the dedicated crew that manages things. The number outside the Stauntonâs Water Treatment Plant will soon say â17â for Stauntonâs 17 years in a row of accolades for water treatment, but this year is special. âWeâve been trying for years, and this is the year when it all came together,â said Staunton Public Works Director Jeff Johnston. ....

Itâs been four months since K-9 Deputy Cara died tragically while attempting to find a gun someone had thrown out of their car. She is missed by many, but the Sheriffâs Office is ready to build on her legacy of helping other agencies. ....

It was the city’s first major tree planting in Gypsy Hill Park. It’s a legacy that continues still today with a message they are trying to pass on to future generations. Staunton City Schools and Shenandoah Green together hosted a tree-planting ceremony at Dixon Educational Center Friday. The Heifitz International Music Institute gave a special performance, Reverend Edward Scott shared a word, and Staunton Schools Superintendent Garett Smith read a story, but the stars of the day’s festivities were Staunton’s youngest learners - its preschoolers. ....
