This afternoon, our school resource officer, Officer Skiba, was notified by the Scottville Police Department of alleged incidents that took place this week in Scottville. The District was advised that the Scottville Police Department was working with Mason County Central Schools to investigate a suspicious vehicle, described as a black truck or black SUV. It is alleged that the driver of this vehicle approached an elementary aged female student yesterday as she was walking to school. It is alleged that the driver asked the student if she wanted a ride before the student ran away toward the school. The District was also notified today that earlier in the week, another similar alleged incident involving a black truck or black SUV was reported to the Scottville Police Department. Superinte ....

Investigation yields 'unanswered questions' about Scottville's finances

SCOTTVILLE â âIncidentsâ with âunanswered questionsâ have been discovered in the investigation into Scottvilleâs finances stemming from a near-miss of the cityâs 2020 revenue-sharing paperwork deadline, and one city employee will be questioned about those issues in the new year, according to City Attorney Carlos Alvarado.
During Mondayâs city commission meeting, Alvarado provided an update about the investigation, which is being conducted by a committee consisting of himself, Mayor Marcy Spencer and Police Chief Matt Murphy, currently serving as acting city manager.
Alvarado stated that there are some specifics about the investigation that he can not disclose without violating the privacy of the employee in question, but he provided what information he could. ....

Shop with a Cop 'biggest year yet'

Shop with a Cop is a holiday tradition for local law enforcement and COVID-19 wasnât about to get in the way of the giving.
If anything, the program received an even bigger response from the community, according to Ludington Police Officer Chad Skiba.
With the assistance of school counselors, children are selected each year from Mason County schools to pair up with local law enforcement and shop for Christmas items for themselves and their families.
The event is run by volunteers and made possible through community donations and fundraisers like the pie auction hosted by the police department.
âItâs fun to do it,â said Skiba, who has organized the event for the past seven years. âIt runs like a greased wheel at this point. The school counselors do a lot of the work behind the scenes.â ....

School resource officer hired to serve Scottville, WSCC, MCC

SCOTTVILLE â The Scottville Police Department, West Shore Community College and Mason County Central Schools finally have their shared school resource officer.
Officer Steve Case was introduced by Police Chief Matt Murphy during Mondayâs meeting of the city commission.
Now in training, Case will fill a role thatâs been in the works for quite some time. The position is the result of a three-way agreement between the City of Scottville, the college and the MCC school district.
Once trained, Case will provide law enforcement services at WSCCâs Victory Township campus, as well as within the City of Scottville and at MCC, as part of a contract between the city and both schools. ....
