The Recorder - Six seats remain unfilled following Orange election

Six seats remain unfilled following Orange election Downtown Orange. Staff File Photo/Paul Franz Related stories ORANGE There were no contested races in the annual town election on Monday, and although everyone running for a seat was victorious, six positions remain unfilled. There were no successful candidates for the one-year seat or the two-year seat on the Elementary School Committee; the two-year position on the Mahar School Committee; the five-year and two-year seats with the housing authority; and a three-year non-veteran position as a trustee of the soldiers’ memorials. Town Clerk Nancy Blackmer said all boards and committees will have to fill empty seats by coming to a consensus about who should be selected.

The Recorder - Editorial: Monday Shorts: Beds for kids

Editorial: Monday Shorts: Beds for kids State representatives, farmers and others involved in agriculture take an apple blossom tour of Apex Orchards in Shelburne on Tuesday to discuss the importance of farms and food systems. STAFF PHOTO/PAUL FRANZ Published: 5/17/2021 9:00:59 AM Here are some brief thoughts on recent happenings in Franklin County and the North Quabbin region. It looks like a match made in heaven, bringing together a LaunchSpace woodworking shop in the Orange Innovation Center with a “community build” event to make bed frames for North Quabbin kids. The matchmaker is Scott Hubbard of Orange, who, with his wife, Tammy, have already built 23 beds for children in the region. They are looking to start a North Quabbin chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nationwide nonprofit with 250 chapters; its Massachusetts branch is based in Acton.

The Recorder - A new type of bedroom factory: LaunchSpace to host community build for national bed nonprofit

A new type of bedroom factory: LaunchSpace to host community build for national bed nonprofit The Orange Innovation Center at 131 West Main St. STAFF PHOTO/PAUL FRANZ The Orange Innovation Center at 131 West Main St. STAFF PHOTO/PAUL FRANZ Published: 5/13/2021 4:35:06 PM ORANGE The building at 131 West Main St. housed a furniture manufacturing company named the Bedroom Factory for roughly 40 years. That history will be fitting on Saturday, when the LaunchSpace woodworking shop inside the Orange Innovation Center hosts a community build to construct bed frames for North Quabbin children in need. LaunchSpace, a 13,000-square-foot workshop on the Orange Innovation Center’s third floor, is hosting the event to support the Middlesex chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an Idaho-based nonprofit made up of volunteers who build, assemble and deliver bunk beds to children that need them. Saturday’s event, in Suite 342, is slated for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
