LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - A local health official is weighing in on the CDC announcing fully vaccinated people can go without a mask indoors and out.
Dr. Scott Michener with Comanche County Memorial said this is one step closer in getting back to normal.
“Those people who are vaccinated can now live their life like the pandemic is over,” Michener said.
However, he said some medical experts feel like the move was made to soon. ....

LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - Vaccination numbers are down in southwest Oklahoma since itâs become available to more people.
Brandie Combs with the Oklahoma State Department of Health said when the vaccine first arrived in the area people were waiting in lines to get it, but now thatâs not the case.
âWhere we were giving twelve-hundred doses a day just in Lawton. We may be giving fourteen-hundred a week in Lawton and a day in all of southwest Oklahoma,â Combs said. ....

LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - As frontline workers continue to get the COVID-19 vaccine, there’s still controversy surrounding how safe it is for pregnant women.
Registered nurse and infection preventionist at Comanche County Memorial Hospital Megan Garibay is 35 weeks pregnant.
She was among other healthcare professionals who were vaccinated at the hospital last Thursday - two days after the vaccine arrived in Southwest Oklahoma.
She has gestational diabetes, putting her in an even higher risk category. ....

LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - Health Care officials administered the first COVID-19 vaccines in Comanche County Wednesday afternoon at Comanche County Memorial Hospital.
First in line was ICU nurse Laura Thomas, who said she chose to get vaccinated because of her elderly father.
“Actually the inspiration came from my father who lives in Ohio,” she said. “He’s 78-years-old. When I talked to him about the vaccine, he was very excited about it. He’s willing to step forward and take it as soon as he can, so I thought this was my way to honor him and try to help.” ....

First COVID-19 vaccines given at Lawton hospital

On hand to watch were Gov. Kevin Stitt, medical professionals, state and local officials and the press.
Laura Thomas, a registered nurse who works in the intensive care unit at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, became the first person in Southwest Oklahoma to receive the COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday during a press conference.
Thomas was administered the vaccine by co-worker Nikki Martinez. Martinez then went on to administer doses to five more staff members of Memorial, including Chief Medical Officer Dr. Scott Michener.
Thomas said she was excited about taking the vaccine, but the inspiration to take it came from her 78-year-old father living in Ohio. ....
