More than 51,000 Houstonians are overdue for 2nd coronavirus shot

HOUSTON – More than 51,000 Houstonians are overdue for their second dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
Scott Packard, spokesman for the Houston Health Department, said that 1,132,816 residents of Houston have received at least one dose for the vaccine as of April 21. That’s of the 2,316,797 people eligible to receive it.
Packard said that 772,572 of those people have received their second dose, but 51,881 of those who have received their first dose are overdue for their second one. Overdue is defined as being more than 42 days past their first dose.
In Harris County, about 3,100 people of the more than 330,000 vaccinated at county clinics have yet to return for their second dose. ....

HOUSTON - More than 50,000 Houstonians didn’t get their second COVID-19 vaccine shot after receiving this first one, according to the Houston Health Department.
There is a situation where not everybody is getting their second dose, said Scott Packard, spokesman for Houston Health Dept.
You should get your second COVID-19 shot three to six weeks after the first one, said Packard. He says so far 51,881 people have blown past that six week mark without showing up for the second shot. It’s something millions of people have done across the U.S., according to the CDC. ....

Confusion Still Abounds On HISD's Coronavirus Policies


The Houston Independent School District has talked a big game about transparency around COVID-19 cases within its school system, but doubt still abounds as to whether or not the district is doing everything it can to keep the public informed about just how well local schools are faring during the pandemic.
Multiple sources have told the
Houston Press that there are more confirmed positive coronavirus cases within district campuses than the stats on HISD’s public dashboard reflect. It’s still unclear how and how often the district’s dashboard is updated with new positive COVID-19 cases.
The district also says it isn’t even aware of how many of its students and staff have died of COVID-19 during the pandemic. And we were (politely) rebuffed when we reached out to HISD’s press office about setting up an interview with the principal of Condit Elementary School, one of several campuses that had to close temporarily in January due to coronavirus exposure concerns. ....
