NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (KTIV) - A group of children were able to see firsthand Tuesday how a dog on the K-9 unit of the highway patrol does its job. A large group of children gathered today at the North Sioux City Community library to listen to Trooper Heuertz give a demonstration on how the K-9 unit of the highway patrol works. The children were shown how the dog works with the highway patrol to sniff for illegal substances and other types of things. Trooper Heuertz hid an object in the room and allowed the dog to try to find it by sniffing around. The children then participated with the officer by asking questions and sharing their own experiences with their own dogs with him. ....

Sioux City Community School Board Member Expresses Concern Over Proposed CARES Act Budget One member of the Sioux City Community School Board says he is concerned about how the school district wants to spend CARES Act Money. Dan Greenwell says there is too much emphasis put on virtual schooling. The Sioux City Community School District was awarded more than $20 million in federal emergency relief money due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Monday, the district unveiled a draft budget to the district’s finance committee. Greenwell is part of that group . “$20 million is just the first round. We are likely to get $35 million more. I don’t know how to say it, but we stumbled over a whole lot of money. And, now the focus that I want is spending each dollar like it’s my own.” ....
