Hamilton High School grads honored in outdoor ceremony
HAMILTON Hamilton High School s Class of 2021 came together Thursday evening at the Hamilton High School football stadium to be recognized during a graduation ceremony.
Battling strong winds that knocked off many graduates caps as they walked across the stage to receive diplomas and trying to beat a rain storm that pushed the ceremony time from 7 p.m. up to 5:30 p.m., school leaders celebrated the achievements of a class that succeeded despite the challenges of learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This year is not what any of us envisioned for your senior year, said Principal Ben Bandfield during the ceremony, but the 197 scholars sitting before us have navigated it beautifully. What a story you have to tell.

With the win, Zeeland automatically qualifies for the regional tournament.
Aidan VanSoest had five goals, five assists, three steaks and a field block.
Nate Brinks added three goals and three assists, while Bryce Ketchum, Connall Pierson and Kyle VanTuinen each scored twice and Owen Durham added a goal.

Unity Christian 5, Zeeland West 1
The Dux girls varsity soccer team lost a tough match against perennial powerhouse Unity Christian 5-1. Despite a seemingly lopsided score, it was the Dux that came out strong and dictated play in the opening 20 minutes, possessing the ball, controlling the midfield, and absorbing pressure from the Unity attack. During this span, the Dux outshot Unity Christian 5-1, and hit two crossbars, but were unable to find the back of the net. Hitting two crossbars in a span of 5 minutes is tough. If they are 2 lower, there may have been a different outcome.

HOLLAND There were only a handful of measures on the local ballots for the Tuesday, May 4, election, but they were significant nonetheless.
Voters in the area had five tax proposals to voice their opinion on, including four for local schools, and all five passed based on unofficial results posted by Ottawa County Tuesday night.
All precincts in the county were fully reported by 9:24 p.m.
Ottawa County Clerk Justin Roebuck said it was a quiet day in terms of in-person voting, but there were a number of absentee ballots sent in ahead of election day. It s been a fairly quiet day, we re seeing in the precincts, because of the number of absentee ballots,” he said. “We ve had about a little over 10 percent turnout already, as of this morning with our absentee numbers before anyone ever walked into a precinct.
