Waxahachie assistant city manager leaving city after 4 years of service, effective Aug. 6 Waxahachie Daily Light Waxahachie assistant city manager Tommy Ludwig has submitted his resignation in order to accept the job of deputy city manager in Burleson. Ludwig’s final day in Waxahachie will be next Friday, Aug. 6. He will assume his new role on Aug. 9, according to Burleson officials. “I’d like to say farewell to Tommy,” city director of planning Shon Brooks said. “We appreciate his support in his role here as our assistant city manager and we’ve really enjoyed having him on the team. We’ll miss him.” ....
Community forum, surveys proposed for change in mayoral election method Waxahachie Daily Light The Waxahachie City Council broached the topic of changing the city charter to allow for the direct election of mayors during discussion at Tuesday night’s regular semi-monthly meeting. Councilmember Melissa Olson, who is an advocate of mayoral elections, said she is proposing a community forum and the conducting of surveys to explore amending the charter to change the way mayors are chosen in the city. Olson is proposing to have the mayor elected outright by citizens, a change from the current method of selecting the mayor. At present, the city charter specifies that the mayor and mayor pro tem are chosen from among the councilmembers following each municipal election. ....
New development on east side of city to be built in phases Waxahachie Daily Light Two development projects took up most of the time of the Waxahachie Planning and Zoning Commission during Tuesday night’s meeting. A massive 2,973-lot plat of Saddlebrook Estates covering almost two square miles on the east side of Waxahachie along U.S. Highway 287 was approved by the commission. The plat derives from a zoning change to a planned development that dates all the way back to 2005. Senior planner Chris Webb said although the plat of the entire subdivision was being approved, the new neighborhood will be built in phases. Webb said any specifications for residential building materials in the PD have been voided by a state law passed in 2019 that prevents cities from mandating them. ....
