A second arrest has been made in three mutilation killings in the San Luis Valley that came to light when the victims remains were found in a remote area in November. An affidavit obtained by The Gazette shows that 38-year-old Francesco “Poncho” Ramirez was arrested in Pueblo on Dec. 11 on federal weapons charges. In a search of his car, police found a gun, methamphetamine and heroin. The affidavit also states that Ramirez is suspected of being an accomplice in the killings of at least three people whose remains were, according to a confidential informant, mutilated and driven around the San Luis Valley. ....
Arrest records unsealed by an Alamosa County judge last week reveal brutal details in the murder of an Alamosa woman who has been missing since early September. The affidavit, unsealed by Alamosa Judge Michael Gonzales, show 19-year-old Selena Esquibel was kidnapped after being hit in the head with a gun and then taken to a property in the southern San Luis Valley where she was shot and left in a hole. Investigators say Adre “Psycho” Baroz returned later with a stolen tractor and covered the hole. Federal agents arrested Baroz in Gallup, New Mexico, on Nov. 19 after a manhunt. Baroz is in Alamosa County jail facing nine criminal charges, including first-degree murder and kidnapping, most of those related to Esquibel’s disappearance. ....

A second person whose remains were found on a Conejos County property in November has been identified as a woman who was last seen in October, according to an update from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI). A forensic odontologist assisting task force investigators used dental records to identify the recovered remains as Shayla Jenna Hammel, who was in her mid-30s. The Saguache woman was reported missing to the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) on Nov. 26. At that time, a family member reported they had not had any contact with Hammel since late October. ....
