A Middle East Feast on SBS. The owner of Melbourne s Maha restaurant has also made a name as the founder of thriving home delivery service Providoor, which has just expanded into NSW.
“We re in a very privileged position here in Australia where we have some of the best restaurants in the world,” the 41-year-old tells SBS Small Business Secrets.
“We have some of the best waterfront regions with beautiful views from some of these dining rooms. But that doesn t mean you can t have that same experience at home.”

Flavio Carnevale could do with a good lie down. The owner of Rushcutters Bay Italian restaurant Marta has been in the kitchen from 2am most days over the past four weeks, topping tarts, rolling scrolls and kneading big slabs of pillowy Roman focaccia.
From 7.30am to 3pm, Carnevale serves his fresh pastries and greets regulars behind Marta s marble counter; by 5pm the chef is back on the pans to cook takeaway gnocchi and parmigianas. Flavio Carnevale says this lockdown has been a greater challenge than when coronavirus restrictions were introduced in March last year.

TV chef and restaurateur Shane Delia had a light-bulb moment last year during Melbourne s long lockdown: how to get the food from the city s top restaurants to their customers.
Delia s Providoor start-up pulled $40 million in revenue across Melbourne restaurants in its first year, and from Wednesday, July 21, Sydney restaurants will join the party. Providoor launched in Melbourne, delivering dishes such as Sunda s marinated squid noodles with Chinese sausage.

Top-shelf eateries Icebergs, LuMi, Monopole and Golden Century are among the first batch of Sydney restaurants to roll out through the Providoor platform.

The renowned Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is proving itself a celebration for all seasons, today unveiling its first ever Winter Edition to attract visitors into the city over 10 fabulous days and nights next month.
Supported by the Andrews Labor Government, the Winter Edition will be held from 20-29 August with more than 150 events scheduled across the city, including the new home of the festival – the Queen Victoria Market.
Queen Victoria Market will host a range of ticketed and free events, workshops and demonstrations, including “The Remixed Grill” – a day of fire-fuelled eating and drinking featuring leading chefs such as Shane Delia, Jerry Mai, Tina Li and Tom Sarafian, as well as campfire stories and cool-climate wines.
