Dam At Horseshoe Lake Is Failing, Sewer District Says

Reply Work must be done at the Lower Shaker Lakes to save failing dams, the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District says. (Google maps) SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH The dams at Horseshoe Lake and Lower Lake are out of compliance with Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) requirements. The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District recently completed the Lake Erie Tributaries Master Plan, including a study of the Doan Brook Watershed and the dams in the Shaker Lakes. Both dams are designated Class I by ODNR. As Class I dams, there is a probable loss of life and severe damage to public roadways if these were to fail and send water downstream uncontrolled. There s no doubt about it: the dam at Horseshoe Lake is failing and that s why ODNR ordered Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights to drain it, said Frank Greenland, director of watershed programs for the sewer district.

Facebook Share SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio Celebrating 91 years: The Village Garden Club has been around for 91 years and is planning to meet in person May 4 to celebrate its 90th anniversary, which it couldn’t do in 2020 because of COVID. The club is made up of women living in Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights, as well as other areas such as Beachwood, Chagrin Falls, Pepper Pike and other locations. The club’s President, Kathleen Tripp, said that members were a bit emotional as they gathered recently for the first time in 15 months to work on planting the latest batch of cherry blossom trees at what they call The Grove, the patch of land next to Horseshoe Lake.
