Updated: 2:07 PM CDT June 3, 2021 SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn Mayor Lee Harris’ Update on COVID Vaccines for Sick and Shut-in Senior Citizens With summer just a few weeks away, Shelby County and our nation seem well on the road toward a return to normalcy. But as eager as we are to get back to our lives before the coronavirus pandemic, it is critical that we continue to make progress getting Shelby County residents vaccinated against COVID-19. Shelby Health Dept Could Be Forced To Merge With Richland Public Health

May 10, 2021 A recent bill in the state’s two year budget could force the Shelby Health Department to merge with Richland Public Health. According to RichlandSource.com, the measure is headed for the Ohio Senate for approval, which would merge all health departments with cities of fewer than 50,000 people.  Shelby is one of 19 local health departments that could be affected. Shelby City Council, which is not in favor of the move, reached out to State Representative Marilyn John and Senator Mark Romanchuk to voice their opinion. The Shelby Health Department was first established in 1923.

COVID-19: Moderna vaccine now offered at fairgrounds after J&J pause

MANSFIELD - The Moderna coronavirus vaccine will now be offered this week at the state-sponsored mass vaccination clinic at the Richland County Fairgrounds in place of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson. The switch came after Gov. Mike DeWine and state health officials, acting on guidance from federal health agencies, advised vaccine providers in Ohio to temporarily pause use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. On Tuesday morning, the federal Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control recommended halting Johnson & Johnson shots, also known as the Janssen vaccine after the J&J subsidiary that makes it,  out of an abundance of caution after six reports of blood clots in individuals who received the vaccine.
