MANSFIELD - The Moderna coronavirus vaccine will now be offered this week at the state-sponsored mass vaccination clinic at the Richland County Fairgrounds in place of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson.
The switch came after Gov. Mike DeWine and state health officials, acting on guidance from federal health agencies, advised vaccine providers in Ohio to "temporarily pause" use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
On Tuesday morning, the federal Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control recommended halting Johnson & Johnson shots, also known as the Janssen vaccine after the J&J subsidiary that makes it, "out of an abundance of caution" after six reports of blood clots in individuals who received the vaccine.
