A recent bill in the state’s two year budget could force the Shelby Health Department to merge with Richland Public Health.
According to RichlandSource.com, the measure is headed for the Ohio Senate for approval, which would merge all health departments with cities of fewer than 50,000 people.
Shelby is one of 19 local health departments that could be affected. Shelby City Council, which is not in favor of the move, reached out to State Representative Marilyn John and Senator Mark Romanchuk to voice their opinion. The Shelby Health Department was first established in 1923.
