STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Staten Island’s veterans and their supporters intend to march on Memorial Day whether or not they receive a permit.
U.S. Army veteran Lee Covino and U.S. Air Force veteran Ted Cohen said during a press conference at Hero Park in Tompkinsville that they’d prefer to proceed with a permit that the city’s already denied, but that local veterans organizations intend to march no matter what. ....

A teenage YouTube rapper pointed what appeared to be a gun at another driver in Prince’s Bay, which prompted a raid where police seized real and fake firearms from the suspect’s Annadale home, authorities allege.
Matthew Cloth, 18, is a YouTube rapper who goes by the handle Matty Gz, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation. ....

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. New York City Council legislation aimed at fundamentally changing the role of school safety agents is drawing a spectrum of wide-ranging opinions that on one end criticize the proposals as being short sighted, and on the other say fall short of true reform.
Interviews with schools safety agents, a union president, a school administrator, parents and advocates for school-safety reform reveal two sides embroiled in a debate that sees the current action taken in the city’s legislative body as being inconsistent with the needs of students. ....
