An 'orphan' college - Newspaper

BEING the only public-sector medical college in Islamabad, the Federal Medical College, previously known as the Federal Medical and Dental College, has remained an orphan since its inception in 2012.
Even after one whole decade, the college lacks basic amenities and facilities for the students, although it is an affiliate medical college of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University.
The washrooms meant for girls are in a rundown condition and there is no canteen or cafeteria for the students. During scorching summers, most air conditioners remain out of order and the ones working are turned off by the college administration. There are no proper lecture halls with requisite equipment and laboratory facilities. In fact, the building housing the medical college belongs to an institution for special children and has been illegally and unethically occupied despite notices having been issued by the Human Rights Commissio ....

ISLAMABAD: Wife and son of Secretary Health Amir Ashraf Khawaja have got jobs in the health departments in the first year of his tenure. The secretary’s wife has been inducted into the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) and his son into the Pakistan Medical Commission. Both of the health establishments fall under his administration. A BS-22 officer, Amir was posted as Secretary, Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination (NHSRC), in May last year. Dr. Shirin Amir, his wife, was inducted in December last year as research associate. She is M.Phil by qualification. Three months after her appointment, she was made part of a project carrying out clinical trials of corona vaccine as co-investigator. According to an insider, she draws Rs400,000 under the head of this project. The salary of Rs80,000 was notified on her appointment letter is in addition. ....

Islamabad : The Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) is the first public sector university in Islamabad to become a DRAP-approved site for Phase III clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccine. SZABMU-PIMS is now becoming part of a multicentre phase III study for COVID-19 vaccine ZF2001. These trials have been approved by National Bioethics Committee (NBC) Pakistan and Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).
Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq, Vice Chancellor of SZAMBU, expressed these views during a briefing given to Secretary Health Aamir Ashraf Khwaja when he visited the university here on Friday. ....

Federal health secretary visits SZABMU

Federal Secretary Health Aamir Ashraf Khwaja visited Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), PIMS.
He was briefed by Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq, Vice Chancellor, that SZABMU is the public sector university in Islamabad to become a DRAP approved site for Phase III clinical trials of Covid-19 vaccine. SZABMU-PIMS is now becoming a part of a multicentre phase III study for COVID-19 vaccine ZF2001. These trials have been approved by National Bioethics Committee (NBC) Pakistan and Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).
Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, medical researchers all over the world are rushing into the research and development of vaccines. ZF2001 vaccine is co-developed by The Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) and Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. It is a protein subunit based vaccine targeting different variants of COVID-19 as well. It is expected to prevent respiratory diseases ....
