Children reading more at home, say visitors as Sharjah reading fest begins

Sharjah: With more time on their hands, children distance learning from home are reading more books, said visitors to Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) that opened on Wednesday at Expo Centre Sharjah.
The annual 11-day event, now in its 12th edition, was officially opened by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah inaugurated the 12th edition of the Sharjah Children s Reading Festival (SCRF) on Wednesday.
Organised by Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), and themed ‘For Your Imagination’, the 12th edition of the region’s largest festival of its kind, runs until May 29 at Sharjah Expo Centre.
The 11-day festival open to visitors from 4:00pm – 10:00pm, excluding Saturdays from 10:00am – 8:00pm, will host the 9th edition of the Sharjah Children s Book Illustration Exhibition, and in-person and online literary discussions by 32 participating authors from 15 countries. ....

Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) implemented the directives of Sharjah Executive Council regarding the regulation of conducting economic activities through mobile vehicles and trucks in the Emirate of Sharjah. Such thing falls within SEDD’s concerns to regulate and organise the economic sector in Sharjah at all levels through setting policies, standards, regulations, decisions and executive circulars in light of the high demand for such activities during the past period.
Sharjah Executive Council decision No. 11 of 2021 regarding the regulation of engaging in economic activities through mobile vehicles and trucks in Sharjah aimed at creating a mechanism for opening new channels for sales and service provision, and stimulating economic movement in Sharjah. ....

Bid to keep the contagion at bay during the festive occasion
The Sharjah City and Umm Al Quwain Municipality authorities have intensified inspection targeting beauty parlours, men and ladies salons two days before Eid-Al-Fitr, which will be celebrated on Thursday (May 13), to ensure all precautionary norms related to Covid-19 are adhered to during the festive occasion.
Sheika Shaza Al Mulla, Director of Public Health and Central Laboratory at Sharjah City Municipality, said that the campaign has been intensified over the last two days and 730 beauty parlours and 1650 salons, including both men and ladies, operating within the jurisdiction of civic authorities have been covered under the drive. ....
