How can authors create books to promote critical thinking, learning and creativity in children? This all-important topic was at the heart of a Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF 2021) Cultural Forum discussion.
“An inspirational book is one that excites and ignites the mind of a child,” said Jordanian author Fida Al-Zamr, one of the participating speakers at the session titled ‘Inspirational Books’.
“The author must take into consideration the age of a child and endeavour to tap into the power of images to deliver messages because illustrations sometimes speak better than words. Most importantly, the book should have attractive characters,” Al-Zamr added. ....

Children only read books when they spark their imagination, writers say at Sharjah reading fest


Sharjah: Children won’t read if books are not made enjoyable through humour, illustrations or other elements, authors told the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF).
During a session titled ‘Inspirational Books’, held under SCRF’s Cultural Forum at Expo Centre Sharjah, leading writers said children will leave books halfway if attractive elements are missing. Jordanian author Fida Al Zamr said: “An inspirational book is one that excites and ignites the mind of a child. The author must take into consideration the age of a child and endeavour to tap into the power of images to deliver messages because illustrations sometimes speak better than words. Children reading more at home, say visitors as Sharjah reading fest begins


Sharjah: With more time on their hands, children distance learning from home are reading more books, said visitors to Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) that opened on Wednesday at Expo Centre Sharjah.
The annual 11-day event, now in its 12th edition, was officially opened by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Edvin Varghese Vinoj, 16, said he has been reading more since the COVID-19 pandemic began. “I’m distance learning and so have more time at home. And what better way to spend time than read some novels?” Edvin added. ....

Authors will stimulate discussions and debates and touch upon several genres of literature.
For the first time in its 12-year history, the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF)is expanding its literary showcase and cultural extravaganza beyond the emirate.
A number of talks and meet-and-greet sessions with famous authors will be held in Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and in the cities of Kalba and Dibba Al Hisn on Sharjah’s east coast.
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the 12th edition of the festival on Wednesday at Expo Centre Sharjah, its main venue. ....
