Cops and firefighters rescue 116 picnickers stranded on a hill in the city after heavy rainfall cut off their return route NAVI MUMBAI: As many as 116 monsoon revellers were rescued by the Kharghar fire brigade after they were stranded at the Kharghar hills due to overflowing storm water in the stream amidst heavy downpour on Sunday afternoon. The team used a 20-feet-tall ladder across the stream and a rope for support to enable the crowd to walk over it to safety. The rescue operation was carried out in three hours. The crowd reached the hills despite the cops warning them of stringent action if they violated orders prohibiting entry to the waterfalls. ....

Representative Image NAVI MUMBAI: An 18-year-old boy drowned at the Pandavkada waterfall in Kharghar on Tuesday despite the area being declared as a no-entry zone. The Kharghar police and forest department had prohibited visitors from entering the area to prevent drowning incidents. Senior inspector Shatrughna Mali said, “On Tuesday, at around 3.30pm, a group of five, including the deceased teen, Mausam Gharti, from Govandi and Mankhurd, visited the waterfalls. While the victim dived into the deep natural pond, the other boys returned to the surface. When they did not find Gharti, they panicked and dialled the police control room. Cops rushed to the spot with the Kharghar fire brigade.” ....

A case of cheating has been filed against Gopal Thakur, Hasmukh Thakur and Roshan Sheth, partners of Monarch Realty Management Services Company; and real estate agent Somnath Landage. The complaint was filed by police inspector Pramod Bhovate, a resident of Sector 20 in Kharghar, who is posted with the Mumbai Police’s special branch.
