LMFM By Marc O Driscoll Councillors will tomorrow vote on making a parking ban at beaches in Co. Meath permanent. The controversial measure at Bettystown Beach was brought in during the first Covid-19 lockdown to deter people travelling to the area and has since been extended several times. A proposal will go before Meath County Council tomorrow with a view to making the ban permanent. Councillor Tolan s motion can be read in full below: In light of the overwhelming success of car free beaches in Meath, from both a public and an environmental perspective, to call on Meath County Council to make this ban of vehicles from the beaches permanent, with the exception of the disability and age friendly parking provision already made. ....
Would be residents of the new Respond operated estate at Maudlins Brook in Duleek can t move into their homes due to COVID, a local councillor has been told. Cllr Stephen McKee says that 30 families are very upset that they can t open their front doors as the homes are not regarded as emergency accommodation . He told the area council meeting that it was unfair on the people who had been left in limbo by the decision. He had raised the issue before at council level and was told there was no issue with people moving into the homes as they were deemed essential. ....
An alternative route - that didn t impact on residents on country roads - would have to be identified before a full HGV ban is introduced in Duleek. That s the view of Meath CC, responding to a proposal by Cllr Stephen McKee as part of the new Meath County Development Plan. That said, Engineer Padraig Maguire did confirm that a proposal already existed in the plan that suggested levels of HGV traffic should be managed in the village. Cllr McKee was seeking a ban on such vehicles. Cllr Sharon Tolan said that such a ban was discussed at local level in the past but the big issue was the fear of rat runs because of it. ....

In a post on social media, Cllr. Tolan appealed for anyone with information about the latest incident to get in touch. Old kitchen cabinets and furniture were among the items found dumped on the dunes on Friday morning and were removed later that day by the litter warden. Cllr. Tolan says the Boyne Estuary & Coast is a Special Area of Conservation and Special Protected Area and is urging anyone with information on who was responsible to pass on their details: ....
