What did the Yankees need? Really need? The lineup wasn’t hitting for enough power, lacked a real impact from the left side, and needed better defense.
Yankees fans, meet Joey Gallo, who checks all those boxes. The Bombers added another big bat to their lineup on Wednesday night when they reportedly came to terms with the Rangers on a remarkable eight-player deal for Gallo and reliever John King. Whenever Gallo plays his first game for New York hopefully tomorrow he will be the club leader in home runs, on base percentage, fWAR, and second on the team in Outs Above Average.

It seems like it would be an obvious goal. But after the Pittsburgh Steelers left arguably one of their best offensive lineman from 2020 standing on the sidelines during their Wildcard game, it’s not something that can completely be taken for granted. If the Steelers want to have a successful 2021 campaign, they’ve got a find a way to make sure their best players at a given position are the ones on the field and getting the majority of snaps.
The most obvious way this becomes a problem, much like it did in the previously mentioned example, is when it comes to rookies versus veterans and who gets the nod when the time comes. If the rookies are ready and a better option, they simply need to be the ones on the field.
Jeff Bridich resigns as Rockies g.m.

Colorado Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich has resigned, it was announced today.
Bridich succeeded Dan O’Dowd as general manager after the 2014 season. The Rockies earned a spot in the Wild Card Game in both 2017 and 2018, but lost the game in 2017 and were swept in the NLDS by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2018. The Rockies have had a losing record in every other season under Bridich.
The Rockies have been largely viewed as a dysfunction organization the last several years, and the Nolan Arenado fiasco which saw the team extend its star third baseman in a deal where Bridich claimed to have offered unbidden an opt out, then alienate Arenado through poor communication and roster decisions, leading the team to trade Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals this winter for an unimpressive return while also subsidizing Arenado’s contract seemed to bring things to a head.
