Colorado Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich has resigned, it was announced today.
Bridich succeeded Dan O’Dowd as general manager after the 2014 season. The Rockies earned a spot in the Wild Card Game in both 2017 and 2018, but lost the game in 2017 and were swept in the NLDS by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2018. The Rockies have had a losing record in every other season under Bridich.
The Rockies have been largely viewed as a dysfunction organization the last several years, and the Nolan Arenado fiasco — which saw the team extend its star third baseman in a deal where Bridich claimed to have offered unbidden an opt out, then alienate Arenado through poor communication and roster decisions, leading the team to trade Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals this winter for an unimpressive return while also subsidizing Arenado’s contract — seemed to bring things to a head.
