EAGAN, Minn. An 18-year-old worker who was shocked and seriously injured at an Eagan, Minn., construction site died two days later.
Aaron Michael Welle of Holdingford, Minn., was holding an electrical cord and stepped in a puddle of water around 1:45 p.m. March 3 while on the job site of an apartment project under construction at the Viking Lakes campus south of Interstate 494, Eagan police said. First responders found Welle not breathing and unconscious in the puddle of water. He died Friday, March 5, at M Health Fairview in Minneapolis. ....

State officials investigating worker death

Minnesota OSHA is investigating a workplace incident that claimed the life of an 18-year-old construction worker in Eagan last week.
Aaron M. Welle of Holdingsford, Minnesota, died at a Minneapolis hospital Friday, two days after suffering an electrical shock while working on an apartment project at the intersection of Dodd Road and Interstate 494. The 250-unit project is part of the Viking Lakes development.
A police spokesman said the victim “stepped in a puddle with an electrical cord,” according to media reports. A 911 caller reported that the worker wasn’t breathing and was unconscious, the spokesman said.
Electrocution is unusual compared to other causes of workplace fatalities, according to Minnesota OSHA records. Between 2016 and 2020, Minnesota OSHA investigated five deaths caused by electrocution: four in 2018 and one in 2020. ....

The worker shocked by electricity while on an Eagan apartment construction site associated with the Minnesota Vikings has died.
Aaron M. Welle, 18, died Friday at M Health Fairview in Minneapolis, two days after the incident Wednesday afternoon outside a building at the Viking Lakes residential construction project in the 700 block of Vikings Parkway.
Welle, of Holdingford, Minn., was working at the time for J-Berd Mechanical, a subcontractor from Sauk Rapids, Minn., according to police.
A caller to 911 said the victim was not breathing and unconscious, said police spokesman Aaron Machtemes. The guy stepped in a puddle with an electrical cord. ....
