FEMA helps upgrade Daytona Beach library flooded in Hurricane Irma


Here s where the money comes from:
90 percent ($831,691): Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster assistance related to Hurricane Irma.
5 percent ($46,205): State of Florida disaster assistance related to Hurricane Irma.
5 percent ($46,205): Volusia County s library fund. largely via property taxes.
The branch, built in 1977 and formally called Daytona Beach Regional Library, is located on an island south of the International Speedway Boulevard Bridge s western end.
The library s floor is below the flood plain, meaning it s at risk of flooding during so called 100-year storms.
When we talk about a 100-year storm, it means there’s a 1 percent chance each year that the storm might occur, Kasbeer explained. ....

The Governor of Iowa has declared a Public Emergency because of the COVID-19 outbreak. The Mayor has determined that an in-person meeting of the City Council is impossible or impractical without violating the Governor’s mandates.
When an in-person meeting is “impossible or impractical,” Iowa Code Section 21.8 permits a governmental body to conduct a meeting by electronic means.
The meeting will be conducted by video conference using ZOOM from the Council Chambers. The Mayor and necessary City staff will be in the Council Chambers. The 7 Council members will not be in the chambers but will participate via ZOOM conferencing.
Comments for items that are on the agenda or for the Public Hearing may be made by submitting them prior to the meeting to the City Clerk, Mayor or any of the Council members or by calling 319-596-0179 during the meeting. ....

City council to discus capital projects

There are also five public hearings set, with three of those regarding a trio of loan agreements that were discussed at the council s meeting Dec. 1. One of those would allow borrowing of $6 million, while the other two bonds would be for $700,000 apiece.
The Ottumwa Police Department also will ask the council for two new in-car camera systems to replace cameras that are five years old and need repair. The Governors Traffic Safety Bureau Grant will offer $9,000 toward the cost, with forfeitures covering the other $2,359. ....
