In a report on Armenia published today, the Council of Europe s Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) calls upon the Armenian authorities to step up their efforts to combat informal prisoner hierarchy and to ensure decent living conditions and access to health care to all prisoners. The Committee is also critical of a continuing lack of basic safeguards in the context of involuntary civil hospitalisation.

DOLE releases P5.6M financial aid to livelihood, Tupad beneficiaries in Badian

THE Department of Labor and Employment recently released P5.6 million in financial assistance for livelihood program beneficiaries and payment of salaries of Tupad workers in Badian town, Cebu.
The livelihood program beneficiaries are the 43 members of the United Farmers and Fishermen Association of Malhiao who will engage in marine farming or mariculture to augment their income.
DOLE disbursed P489,200 to fund the group’s mariculture project.
The agency also released the reference codes of about 1,287 Tupad workers in the town who will each receive P4,040 as payment for their salaries.
Tupad refers to DOLE’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed, and seasonal workers for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the natur ....

ISLAMABAD: The water availability crisis in the country has aggravated more as the dip in water system has started appearing on the scene compelling the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) to reduce water withdrawal from the Tarbela Dam by taking the decision to release 8,000 cusecs of water per day to Sindh from May 18 under a temporary arrangement.
The water regulator has told the provinces that if the dip lasts for a week, the water shortage will go up by 25-30 per cent as the flows in water system are on the decline mainly because of lower temperature at catchment areas of Indus, Kabul, Jhelum and Chenab rivers. The IRSA, keeping in view the present water situation, has asked the provinces to utilize the available surface water in the river system efficiently by placing the rationalized indents in the future without any wastage till the normalization of the water situation. ....
